Devices used to convert light into an electrical current

Photodiodes are semiconductors that convert light into an electrical current. Photodiode sensors are constructed like regular semiconductor diodes but without the opaque coating commonly used on signal and rectifier diodes. Photons absorbed in the photodiode generate the current. These devices usually consist of optical filters, lenses and surface areas. Looking for other optical sensors?
